Overview
In a research project I conducted specifically focusing on peatland health and management in Scotland and how it relates to the country’s whisky industry, I created a series of graphics to help make some of the information easier to understand to readers.
One is a start to finish illustration of the whisky making process including all stages. This was used to highlight where in the distillation process the use of peat comes into play, which is in the kilning stage and often when water is added.
Another illustrates the island of Islay, specifically detailing the locations of each distillery and the three primary peatland areas being harvested from.
These graphics were paired with photographs and charts to tell a story of the industry and relate the current landscape to the perspectives of the island locals, environmental researchers, distilleries that use peat in their processes, and whisky lovers.
